A proposed commercial development is expected to notably increase vehicle traffic within the Memorial Road corridor, particularly at and north of its intersection with Lakeshore Drive (Highway 7). Most of the roadway is currently gravel and does not have the structural capacity to accommodate the anticipated traffic loading. Additionally, this area is prone to inundation during notable rain events. The proposed project will replace the gravel roadway with a new concrete/curb and gutter roadway. A new storm system will be constructed to minimize flooding events and sanitary sewer will be extended from Lakeshore Drive to serve future development within the corridor. The cost is estimated at $2,769,224.
A public hearing was held Monday with no objections, prior to the resolution. City officials and the project engineer met with adjoining business and property owners earlier to discuss the project, and will continue to work with the property owners to minimize impact during the construction process.
