The public is invited to attend the planting, which will take place Wednesday, September 27, 5:30 p.m., at Storm Lake’s West 10th Street Park (across from the Field of Dreams). Trees Forever field coordinator Jeff Jensen plans to visit the event.
Earlier this year, Storm Lake was selected for a $4,000 grant from the Alliant Energy Community Tree Program, part of the “One Million Trees” Initiative. The City sought the grant to help offset some of the tree losses to Emerald Ash Borer and storm damage on public properties around the City.
Twenty trees will be planted this fall as part of the program. Storm Lake will continue to work to maintain the tree canopy for the community.
The Alliant Energy program aims to fund planting of one million trees in Iowa and Wisconsin by the end of 2030. So far, more than 458,000 plantings have taken place.
Trees are not only beautiful, the shade they create can save energy. They provide habitat for wildlife, help protect water resources, and reduce greenhouse gases. Learn more about the program and tree planting at: www.alliantenergy.com/communitysupportandsafety/communityprograms/onemilliontrees
