The Storm Lake City Council has approved a new plan for the Storm Lake Citywide Clean-Up, to be more convenient for residents and to allow more households to take part.
The current Clean-Up period began in November and runs through May of 2026. Rather than one date, Storm Lake residents will be able to take their unwanted items to the Recycling Center at any time during the period.
Cost remains at $15 per load. Tickets are available at City Hall, and are limited to two tickets per household for the period.
The Buena Vista County Recycling Center has graciously agreed to participate in the Clean-Up, which helps the City to keep the cost affordable.
The Citywide Clean-Up was initiated a number of years ago to encourage residents to keep their properties tidy. The program has undergone changes several times over the years as the community has grown. The new system will be evaluated after the first year to determine if any changes are needed.
Here are the rules for the program:
* Available for Storm Lake residents only.
* Residents are responsible for transporting items to the Recycling Center.
* No business or commercial dumping, residential use only.
* Two tickets available per household.
* 350 tickets available for November-May disposal, first-come, first-served.
* Cost is $15 per car/pickup load. If also pulling a trailer load, an additional ticket is needed.
* Tickets must be presented at the Recycling Center office upon arrival.
* As usual, the following are not allowed for disposal in this program – construction materials or debris, hazardous waste,
yard waste, paint or household cleaning chemicals, junk vehicle or parts, tires on rims, or ceramic fixtures such as toilets, sinks or tubs. For disposal of these items, contact the Recycling Center.
