The Storm Lake Fire Department annual report for 2024 has been released. The report details 265 response incidents over the past year, down 288 from 2023.
The total includes 19 structure fires fought, 8 vehicle fires, 7 hazardous materials spill incidents, 45 rescues and many other responses.
The department logged almost 1800 hours of training for its firefighters. Two new firefighters joined the department, and four members earned promotions.
SLFD
organized and hosted a Regional Fire School for the first time, with 26 departments participating in the learning opportunities. It also organized a Junior Firefighter cadets program - another first. The first group of students are beginning training with the department in 2025.
The SLFD also built on an impressive record of public outreach, including over 40 presentations, drills and school visits. The department hosted its Open House, Fire Prevention Week activities around the community, a kids' fir safety coloring contest, and took part in events such as Kids' Fest and Breakfast With Santa.
