[ARCHIVED] Parked vehicles must be off street for city Snow Emergencies

IMG_3754

A reminder as we head into winter snow season: vehicles left parked in the street or in downtown parking lots B & D during City of Storm Lake Snow Emergencies WILL, be towed at the owner's expense. That goes for trailers, snowmobiles, boats - vehicles cannot be on the street overnight when the snowplow needs to get through. We don't like towing, but we've simply seen too many situations where parked vehicles delay snow removal and create safety or damage concerns.

Snow Emergency parking restrictions run from 10 p.m.-6 a.m. on residential streets, and 2 a.m.-6 a.m. on Central Business District streets.

Snow Emergencies are declared when the outlook is for three inches of more of snow (it can be less if ice or drifting conditions add to the situation). Snow Emergencies declarations will be shared as early as possible in the day before the parking ban takes effect for overnight. Look for the announcements on the City's website and Facebook page and in text alerts for those who have signed up for notifications (see stormlake.org to sign up). You can also call 712-213-SNOW (7669) 24 hours a day to check Snow Emergency status in English or Spanish. Declarations will also be shared with local media, and on signs put up at City Hall, Tyson, Hy-Vee, Bomgaars and Walmart.
Keep an eye on the weather forecast, and look for Snow Declaration announcements - move those vehicles and save the considerable cost and hassle of a towing recovery.
