The Storm Lake Police Department is deeply saddened to announce the passing of its K-9 Ozzy, who was recently
diagnosed with cancerous tumors. After consultation with veterinary medical experts, Ozzy was humanely euthanized on October 4.
K-9 Ozzy had served the citizens of Storm Lake with dedication since March, 2019. Since 2023, he had been partnered with handler Officer Mitchell Fritz. Ozzy’s presence in the community will be greatly missed.
The SLPD is currently seeking donations to help fund the purchase and training of a new K-9. Police K-9 units are valuable tools in criminal apprehension, tracking and drug detection.
As the K-9 Unit operates outside of the department's regular budget, public support is crucial in continuing this valuable program.
