[ARCHIVED] UPDATE: FUTURE CITY WELL PROJECT

White and Blue Ocean Minimalist Aesthetic World Water Day Facebook Post

The City of Storm Lake's capital improvements plan for water infrastructure has taken another step forward, with a site located for an additional well installation. The City Council approved an engineering contract for the project this week, with construction expected next summer.
Public Works Director Matt Beckman told the council that exploratory drilling of three potential sites has located one that will provide the necessary water for the needed full shallow alluvial aquifer well.
Good news - the site is adjacent to the Well No. 22, which was recently approved for construction. The two wells reach into different aquifers, so will not compete for supply. Plus, adjustments to the well house building and electrical controls already planned for Well No. 22 can provide substantial savings to the City on the additional well. A change order will be drawn up to reflect the adjustment.
The new wells will help to provide water resources to serve the needs of a growing community for the years to come, along with the additional storage capacity of the new water tower now under construction. The City will also turn attention to the needs for a increased treatment plant capacity.
