Flushing will take approximately three working days.
The City of Storm Lake conducts an annual hydrant flushing and servicing program. The flushing process ensures that hydrants are working properly. Moving water through the system also clears lines and removes any rust or sediment that could limit water flow. During the process, hydrants in two of the City’s eight zones per year are tested for pressure on a rotating basis.
Flushing normally takes place between the hours of 6 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
During the flushing process, the City of Storm Lake recommends that customers check their water supply in the morning from the cold water supply nearest their water meter. If residents notice discoloration or odor, running their household system for five to seven minutes from that cold water faucet nearest the water meter normally clears the situation.
If discoloration or odor continues, residents can contact the City of Storm Lake at 712-732-8020 and provide their location and the time they noticed the issue.
