Strategic Plan

Members of the Storm Lake City Council and staff meet once a year to work on refining their long-range plan and clearly defining their core values.

The core values of an organization are those values that form the foundation on which the employees of the City of Storm Lake perform work and conduct themselves as they set about implementing the long-range plan for the community.

The current core values follow:

  • Integrity – We seek to earn the public’s trust through ethical interactions and exemplary service
  • Inclusiveness and diversity – We will honor diversity and treat each individual in the community with respect and dignity
  • Prosperity – We will meet the community’s needs through improved growth, continuous improvement in services and proactive leadership
  • Family support and caring – We are committed to showing empathy and compassion to our community members and ensuring a safe community
  • Service oriented – We will provide exceptional and responsive service to all the citizens we serve
  • Stewardship – We will provide exemplary stewardship for our public, natural, and financial resources and promote pride in our community
  • Strong community connection – We will continue to improve community partnerships with shared goals

Council and staff also review the current strategic plan and revise the strategic themes that will guide staff as they move forward with the process of developing goals and action steps for each theme over the next several weeks.

It is the overall intent of the City’s strategic plan to build a sustainable yet resilient community that reaffirms the vision and mission of the organization.
