IMPLEMENTING A VISION

Downtowns are the heart of our communities—economically, physically, and socially. They are the place where social and economic strength radiate out to the larger community and region. Their density and resiliency create ample opportunities to provide better and more efficient access to services, employment, housing, arts, and entertainment, while also representing our communities and all our residents have to offer.

The purpose of the Storm Lake Downtown Master Plan is to take a long-term approach, looking out 10–20 years, and create an aspirational, yet implementable vision for downtown Storm Lake. With input from the community and downtown business owners, this Plan explores the strengths and opportunities of downtown Storm Lake, while providing recommendations to preserve and improve existing features, enhance pedestrian connectivity, and explore new opportunities to connect downtown to the other incredible places in Storm Lake.

The Storm Lake City Council adopted the Storm Lake Downtown Master Plan on June 5, 2023, after nearly a year of preparation.  More public input will be gathered as individual projects come forward.   We are excited to share this process with our community!
