The City of Storm Lake would like to take this opportunity to ask for the communities help in making Storm Lake a great community to live and visit over the upcoming few months.  Part of this is the need to prevent grass and debris from being deposited and left on public streets and public right of ways, including sidewalks and street gutters. These items can affect sanitary sewers, storm drainage, and street-cleaning operations.

Grass and debris left in the public right of ways is washed down the City’s stormwater systems and eventually end up in Storm Lake.  Once the grass clippings are washed into the storm water system the grass decomposes on its way to the lake and once in the lake.  This decomposition process depletes oxygen in the lake and is harmful to the aquatic environment of the lake.

Lawn debris can be taken, free of charge, to the Howard Rowley Recycling Center (1263 630th Street, Storm Lake, IA)

The City is asking for the help of citizens and business owners to help raise awareness of the policy and the benefits of keeping grass clippings and debris out of the right of way and therefore out of the lake.

The City of Storm Lake appreciates the cooperation of the citizens of Storm Lake for their support in this matter.
