The Storm Lake Hometown Pride Committee is a volunteer committee that consists of leaders and community members who are guiding betterment projects right here in Storm Lake. Storm Lake Hometown Pride was formed through a partnership with Keep Iowa Beautiful, aiming to: enhance amenities, cultivate local leadership, foster civic pride, boost economic vitality, and promote collaboration.

The Storm Lake Hometown Pride Committee meets monthly and is working on several projects they feel will contribute to the vitality of Storm Lake. A few highlights on what the Committee has been up to!

• Partnered with the City of Storm Lake and local businesses and organizations to fill all volunteer needs for Storm Lake Proud Week
• Hosted Summer BINGO at KidsFest
• Worked in partnership with the City of Storm Lake to apply to Iowa DNR’s REAP program to help bring the vision of the Storm Lake Nature Area to life through the development of access and trails (we’re waiting to hear if we’ve been awarded!). This is an ongoing project that the committee will help to incrementally build out through fundraising and grant writing.
• In addition, the committee is working on a downtown bench program and some exciting public art (more details to come!)

The Hometown Pride Program was created in 2012, and was established in Storm Lake and 9 other surrounding communities in December of 2024. The program is a partnership between each participating community and Keep Iowa Beautiful, providing participating communities with 5 years of matched funding for the cost of a Hometown Pride “coach”. The coach is a community development expert who assists communities’ local Hometown Pride committees to identify and complete projects that address pressing community needs.
