Public art is a priority in Storm Lake. Some of this creativity takes the form of the Storm Lake Lighthouse Project – a unique art installation. The project began in 2021, when two local art teachers commissioned the first 10 seven-feet-tall molded fiberglass lighthouses, an iconic symbol in Storm Lake.

Local artists create designs for future lighthouses, competing for the opportunity to paint one of the sculptures in their own style – the more imaginative and surprising, the better. The lighthouses can be seen in Storm Lake parks and public places. Download and print the Storm Lake Lighthouses Location and Artist Information Guide.

By the way – if you like your lighthouses on a much larger scale, visit our signature lighthouses. One is located along the Highway 71 entry to the community, one is in Scout Park near Buena Vista University, and a lighthouse at Awaysis Beach on the lakefront offers adventurous visitors a chance to climb to the top for great views and photos.
