Water bills are mailed out the first of every month and are due when received. The water bills include charges for water, sewer, and landfill. Bill payments may be mailed, paid at City Hall Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., dropped off at the payment box located at the service desk at the Hy-Vee food Store located on North Lake Avenue, dropped off at the night deposit box located in the south parking lot at City Hall, or paid through automated payment through your checking account at one of Storm Lake's Banks.
Any water bills not paid by the 15th of the month will be deemed delinquent, a 10% penalty will be added, and service will be disconnected for non-payment. A disconnect notice will be posted and a charge of $20 plus tax will be added to the delinquent account to cover the cost of posting the notice. A charge of $50.00 plus $3.50 tax is charged for reconnection of water service ($75 after hours/holidays).
A combined utility deposit of $130.00 is required for all residential rental properties. The combined utility deposit will be refunded after 24 consecutive months of penalty-free service. The original amount of the deposit will be credited to the customer's account. Under no circumstances will deposits be used to pay past due accounts. A customer moving from an address before the 24-month period will have the combined utility deposit applied to their final bill. Please note that a change of address will require a new deposit.
New residents to Storm Lake need to fill out a water service application to receive water service and the combined utility deposit needs to be paid (if required). These applications are available at City Hall, 620 Erie Street or may be printed out and returned to City Hall.
