Circulation Policies

Library Cards

Anyone Kindergarten age or older may receive a library card valid for three years.  To apply for a library card, request a registration form from a library staff member.  You will need to provide proof of your current address.  Accepted forms of identification include: a valid driver's license, utility bill or check book with name/address imprint.

You will need to present your library card when you borrow materials.  It is strongly recommended that you DO NOT lend your library card to others.  The person to whom the card was issued is responsible for all fees, fines, and materials checked out or rented with that card.

If your card has been lost or stolen please notify the Storm Lake Public Library as soon as possible.  There is a fee for replacement cards.

Loan Periods

Books, magazines, paperbacks, pamphlets, newspapers, and audio materials are circulated for a 3 week period with one renewal allowed.  Video cassettes, A-V kits, and some reference books are circulated for 3 days and are not renewable.  Fines on overdue materials (excluding video cassettes) are $0.05 per day.  Fines on video cassettes are $1.00 per day per cassette.

Restricted Usage

Persons with valid library cards are restricted from borrowing any Library materials if they have overdue items or if their fines accumulate to $1.00 or more.  When fines are cleared or materials returned, borrowing privileges are restored.

Popular Items

Overdue Notices

Borrowers are responsible for returning materials by closing time on the due date.  A date-due printout is given to borrowers each time items are checked out.  As a courtesy reminder, the Library will mail overdue notices to the borrower when an item is overdue.  If the item is not returned, a replacement cost will be assessed.
