The City of Storm Lake Public Works Department deals with streets, storm sewers, sanitary sewer lines, and water lines. The following list is a summary of what the public works department handles:

Tree Trimming
During the winter months the Street Department trims trees located on the parking. Residents may request to have the trees on the parking adjacent to their property trimmed. Call or stop in City Hall (732-8000) to request a form or print one and return to City Hall.
Snow Ban
During the winter the City of Storm Lake imposes a snow ban. This ban is in effect from November 1st to April 1st. No parking is permitted on the street between the hours of 12:00 midnight to 6:00 A.M. In the C-1 Zone Commercial District, also known as the Downtown Business District no parking is permitted between 2:00 A.M. to 6:00 A.M. This parking ban enables the street crews to remove snow accumulated on the streets.
Right-of-Way Closings
If it is necessary to close public right-of-ways such as sidewalks, streets, alleys, etc. for construction, parades, fundraisers, etc., a permit to close such right-of-way must be obtained from City Hall. This form needs to be filled out a week in advance (if possible). There is a $10.00 per day charge for barricades with a $20.00 minimum.
