The City of Storm Lake will be conducting their annual hydrant flushing program starting in the late evening hours of Sunday, October 9, 2016 and running through October 28, 2016.
This flushing program is part of annual servicing program in which City staff conducts tests on fire hydrants throughout the community to ensure that they operate effectively and also to move water through the distribution system.
Flushing will occur between the hours of 11PM and 7AM daily with the exception of Friday night and Saturday for the duration of the process.
During the flushing process the City of Storm Lake recommends that customers check their water supply in the morning from the COLD water supply nearest their water meter and if they notice discoloration or odor to flush their household system for five to seven minutes from that COLD water faucet nearest the water meter.
Should the discoloration or odor continue they can contact the City of Storm Lake at 712-732-8020 and provide their location and the time they noticed the discoloration odor.
For additional information on this topic contact the City of Storm Lake by phone at 712-732-8020.
The City will continue to update customers on additional flushes through our web page, our Twitter (@Storm_Lake) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/CityofStormLake) pages, and through the local media.
Additional notifications regarding flushing as well as community alerts can be obtained through text and email alerts through the Buena Vista county Alerts system. Residents can sign up for these alerts by visiting the City's web page at www.stormlake.org/WENS.
